We dropped in to see Paul at the New Albion in Wakefield. Paul very kindly agreed to let our new staff members experience his weekly beer line clean. Paul is a very experienced publican. He has been a landlord of Everards pubs for many years. 18 months ago he came to Wakefield from Leicester to turn around the fortunes of the New Albion.

Paul has always relied on Proton products and is a passionate advocate of how best practice in cellar management and glass care ensures the perfect serve.

It’s useful for new staff to see our products at work and gives them an appreciation of the time, effort and dedication a landlord puts into the average day.

Wednesday is always line cleaning day for Paul. Paul uses Protinate clear beer line cleaner and our unique dye additive producing a blue colour if present in the lines.

Paul told our newbies:

‘I wouldn’t use any other products than Proton for beer line cleaning. You can get cheaper products but it’s just not worth it. You need to use at least twice as much to get only half the results you get from using Proton. Then you risk tainting your serve, so using cheap products ends up costing you far more than what you paid for them at the till’

Wine-Glass

Proper glass care is also high on Paul’s list of priorities:

‘Glassware lasts so much longer with Proton cleaning products. Bad glass care can ruin a serve. I use Quash to get rid of lippy and proton detergent and rinse aid in the glass washer. We have a rolling program of using Renovate on all our glassware as it prolongs glass-life by quite some margin’

Our new staff came away having a much greater understanding of the place of Proton products in a busy pub. And as Paul said;

I am busy all day every day and there are a lot of variables in the life on a landlord. One of the few things I can rely on is proton ensuring I always pour the perfect serve. It’s just not worth risking anything less’
